Open Beacon for iPhone
Help with Open Beacon
Open Beacon finds lost Bluetooth things, like earbuds, headphones, fitness bands, hearing aids and speakers, by how strong their signal is. You can find by feel, by sound or by sight: your phone vibrates faster as you get closer, the screen fills, and it can say how close you are. This version has no account, ads or subscription.
Find something
Open the app and allow Bluetooth. Your saved things are listed first, then everything heard nearby. Tap the lost thing and walk slowly, turning now and then. The big word goes from Far to Closer, Near, Very near and Right here, and the line under it says whether the signal is getting stronger or weaker. Hold the phone out in front of you: walls, bodies and pockets weaken the signal.
Without sound or sight
Vibration always gets faster and stronger as you get closer, so you can search with the phone muted. Turn on Speak to hear how close you are; with VoiceOver on, VoiceOver says it, and finding keeps working with Screen Curtain on. The screen stays awake while you search, because iOS stops Bluetooth scanning when the phone locks.
One of a pair
If both earbuds or both hearing aids show up, Open Beacon finds the one farther from your phone, because the one you are wearing is right next to it. Tap Switch to find the other one.
Save and rename
Long press a thing, or use the VoiceOver actions, to save it and give it your own name. Saved things show when this iPhone last heard them. The list keeps its order; things heard for the first time go at the bottom.
Play a sound
Headphones, earbuds or hearing aids that are still connected to this iPhone can play a chirp so you can hear where they are. Take them off first.
What it can't find
Things that are out of battery or switched off, earbuds closed in their charging case, and things too far away, usually more than a room or two. Phones and other Apple devices are usually easier to find with Find My.
