Open Feeds for iPhone

Help with Open Feeds

Open Feeds is a feed reader for iPhone. Follow any site that publishes RSS, Atom or JSON Feed, with no account, ads, subscription or limit on how many feeds you follow.

Add a site

Tap Add Feed. Type a name to search popular feeds, or browse them by topic and tap Add. To follow any other site, paste its address, like example.com: Open Feeds finds the feed the site advertises and shows its headlines before you add it. Open Feeds starts empty; nothing is followed until you choose.

Stop following

On the Feeds screen, swipe a feed to the left and tap Unfollow, or long-press it. Undo appears for a few seconds. Saved headlines from that feed stay in Saved.

Reading

All Unread shows every new headline, newest first. Headlines you scroll past are marked read and won’t come back as unread; turn this off in Settings with Mark Read as I Scroll. Mark All Read clears the list in one tap, with Undo for a few seconds. Tap a headline to open the article in Safari’s reader view when the site supports it; tap Done to return. Long-press a headline to mark it unread, save it, share it or copy its link.

Paywalled sites

In a feed’s settings, turn on Paywalled to put a lock on its headlines, and Keep out of All Unread to read that feed only in its own list.

Your subscriptions file

After every change, Open Feeds saves your list of feeds as an OPML file in the Files app under On My iPhone ▸ Open Feeds. Any feed reader can import it. In Settings you can share that file or import an OPML file from another reader. If the app’s saved data is ever damaged, it recovers from its previous good copy and from this file.

When a feed fails

If a site doesn’t answer, its row shows when it last worked and its saved headlines stay. Open Feeds only uses secure (https) connections, so a site that offers only an insecure connection can’t be added.

Contact

The popular-feeds list comes from the public-domain awesome-rss-feeds project; every feed was checked to load and to have posted recently before release.
