Help with Open Reader

Open Reader is a reader for iPhone for the EPUB, PDF and CBZ (comic) files you already have. This version has no account, ads or subscription.

Add books

Tap Add Books and pick files, or a whole folder, in the file picker. You can also choose Open in Open Reader from another app’s share sheet. Books are copied, unchanged, into Files ▸ On My iPhone ▸ Open Reader; a book that is already there is not copied twice.

Read

Tap a book. Tap the right edge of the page to go forward and the left edge to go back, or swipe. Tap the middle of the page to show Contents and Type. Your page is saved on every turn and comes back when you reopen the book or the app.

Type and theme

In Type, choose from 14 text sizes, line spacing, paragraph spacing, margins, justification and font, and a Paper, Sepia, Night or Auto background. Your settings override the book’s own styles. Type settings apply to EPUB books; PDFs and comics show their pages as made.

Files that won’t open

Open Reader opens DRM-free EPUB, PDF and CBZ files. Books bought from stores that use DRM, password-protected PDFs, CBR (RAR) comics and MOBI files are not supported in this version; the library shows the reason next to the file.

Your files

Adding a book copies it; your original stays where it was. Long-press a book to share it, mark it finished or remove it from the library. Removing deletes only Open Reader’s copy and its reading position, never the original. Deleting the app deletes Open Reader’s folder.
